Surveying and Spatial Information"
Stephen Barr, the recently appointed Manager of the Monteath & Powys Planning Division, won the "NSW Surveyor General's International Fellowship-Surveying and Spatial Information" at the Sydney Hilton Hotel, Friday 29 September 2006. This Fellowship is valued at $15,000 and allows Stephen to study overseas to further his knowledge and appreciation of global challenges that face the surveying profession.
Stephen Barr is a Registered Surveyor and Certified Practising Planner and expects to visit:
- Thailand to observe their land title systems, how the conversion from native title to a more formal land title occurs and improvements to the Thailand title systems.
- USA high growth city centres (such as Boston) to determine how local authority and local surveyors are dealing with the issuing of land titles in mixed use buildings.
- Scandinavian cities to study local council land holdings and public access to private land.
Stephen explains the benefits of this fellowship:
"It will improve my understanding of the importance of a robust land title system, clarify my role as a surveyor and improve global solutions to surveying challenges."
Within Monteath & Powys Planning Division, Stephen manages planning activities that include Statements of Environmental Effects, comprehensive planning studies, Environmental Impact Statements, co-ordination of environmental studies, rezoning submissions and land development applications. His experience and expertise contributes to the one stop shop land development services that Monteath & Powys offers to its extensive commercial/industrial client base.
