Monteath & Powys Plays a Vital Role in Hunter Coal Expansion PDF
Monteath & Powys is playing a vital role in expansion and development of the coal industry throughout the Hunter Valley. Huge infrastructure contracts worth almost $2.5 billion are under way and Monteath & Powys is involved in all three:
- Extensions to the existing coal loader at Kooragang Island
- Construction of a new facility on Kooragang Island
- Major expansion of the inland rail network to Gunnedah
The company is well advanced in survey and audit work for the Stage 3 expansion of the coal loader which is operated by Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS).
The expansion involves the construction of new stackers, reclaimers and conveyors at a total cost of more than $400 million.
A team of our surveyors is also working on the new $1 billion Kooragang coal loader for its operators, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG). This involves the site and survey work for the two shipping berths for the new loader.
Meanwhile, our surveyors are playing an equally vital role in the $1 billion expansion and upgrade of the rail network through the Hunter Valley and beyond being undertaken by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).
Monteath & Powys' primary role is to audit the upgrade of the existing track and construction of earth works, laying of new tracks and building of new bridges as the network is extended inland as far as Gunnedah.
The massive expansion project has followed the opening of more mines and the need for increased capacity. All three projects, under the guidance of Company Director, Peter Sherlock, are closely linked to one another.
"Expansion of the existing coal loader and construction of the second will significantly increase coal output through the port, however, it is also vital that more coal can be transported to Newcastle through the rail network quickly and effectively.
Our company is proud to be involved in a major way in all three projects so this vital industry can be expanded.
This will maintain Newcastle's status as the busiest coal export port in the world and ensure the future of the industry here." |
